JOB DESCRIPTION FOR COMMUNITY ORGANIZER POSITION

Title: Community Organizer  

Reports To: Executive Director

The Coalition for Spiritual and Public Leadership (CSPL) is seeking to hire a Community Organizer who will be responsible for continuing to build a powerful Spirit-centered organization with a team of talented and courageous leaders and staff. The organization’s focus includes working to co-transform people, parishes, institutions and communities with a center of powerful, motivated, confident, competent and collaborative leaders who express and act on their values, which are rooted in the Catholic spiritual and theological traditions.  

MAJOR DUTIES:

·     The Organizer is responsible for outreach, recruitment, and retention of organizational members through ongoing one-on-one meetings with existing and new leaders and members. This includes building strong working relationships with people of faith, students, community leaders and institutional leaders (clergy, labor, university, organizational, etc). 

·     Recruiting new members; ensuring that the leaders have a full understanding of CSPL’s initiatives and campaigns; and helping leaders maintain an appropriate level of activity to move our campaign efforts forward.

·     The Organizer plans and organizes a public event each year that expands membership, structures the organization, affirms an action agenda and provides major recognition for CSPL. 

·     The Organizer will help to identify and develop issue campaigns that build leadership; build CSPL; challenge leaders to work collectively, to develop and carry out effective strategies for actions; and are tied to a bigger picture rooted in CSPL’s mission and vision.  

·     Develop and implement effective fundraising and fund development activities.

·     Perform important program support and administrative functions including submitting timely reports to the Executive Director and funding sources, and assuring the proper administration of all funds within the leadership approved budget.

·     Participate in and help to organize CSPL’s spiritual, theological and leadership development activities. 

·     Work with and report to the Executive Director who will mentor this organizer in the arts and disciplines of CSPL style faith-based organizing. 

QUALIFICATIONS

·     Ability and experience working within a multicultural setting.

·     3-5 years of relevant organizing experience (Community, Labor, Voter) a significant plus.

·     Comfortable working with people of all faith traditions and working knowledge of Roman Catholic faith traditions. 

·     Ability to speak Spanish or a second language a significant plus. 

·     Strong analytical, writing, and public speaking skills. 

·     Strong relational skills and ability to connect, engage, and inspire community members across multiple cultures and demographics including race, gender, age, language, economic status and including but not limited to sexual orientation. 

·     Capacity to think strategically and analytically about social, economic, cultural, political, spiritual and theological issues affecting a community.

·     Ability to train and develop others.

·     Strong desire to grow spiritually and theologically as a leader within the Catholic faith tradition.

·     Desire to learn about community organizing, cultures, politics, history, faith traditions, etc. and openness to challenge.

·     Openly seeks to understand and critique systems of oppression and is invested in dismantling these systems.

·     Ability to work as part of a strong staff team as well as independently; thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

·     Ability to identify and partner with local groups such as parishes, university groups, social service providers, grassroots groups, and city agencies. 

 ·     Commitment to bottom-up organizing, grassroots leadership, and collective decision-making

·     Full-time position with considerable evening and occasional weekend work

COMPENSATION

Competitive salary range (depending on experience) augmented with a benefits package of retirement 403(b), paid vacation, sick, and holiday leave.  The position includes opportunities for extensive formation, training and coaching.

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR OFFICE COORDINATOR (PART TIME)

Title: Office Coordinator 

Reports To: Executive Director

RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Communication

·     Coordinates: Email, Correspondences (Written, Oral, Flyers, Pamphlets), Fax, Phone, Postal mail (incoming and outgoing), Shipping and Package reception

·     Send memos and reminders to officers/membership/staff 

·     Office point of contact for CSPL 

2.    Administrative

·     Maintenance of schedules (calendar)

·     Maintaining digital finance and contacts database (Quickbooks & Mailchimp)

·     Schedule appointments

3.    Organizational Support 

·     Creating, implementing, updating procedures

·     Prepare meeting logistics

·     Advocate for improving efficiency of customer relations and services

·     Establishing travel arrangements for staff, board members and leaders

·     Maintaining relationships with partner suppliers

4.     Office Management 

·     Organizes office

·     Equipment Maintenance – phones, copier, printer, computers, paper shredder, coffee maker, water filter, etc. 

·     Filing documents – electronic and paper

5.    Follow up with organization donors and members appropriately

·     Track donations and dues in order to thank each gift appropriately in coordination with ED and Finance Committee 

·     Work with Finance Committee, staff and board to manage and build donor relationships and build a donor database 

·     Coordinate annual dues reminders and follow up to CSPL member organizations and individuals

6.    Manage organizational data appropriately 

·     Ensure sign-in sheet info entered into database accurately and in timely manner (within one week of event) to track CSPL's members, base, and growth. 

·     Update website with items (issue team meetings, fundraising events, etc.) and send organizational emails as needed

·     Coordinate staff use of database and other online tools to support digital organizing, donations, event registration and email updates

·     Ensure data is organized effectively (e.g. segment member list of about currently into groups geographically, by donor status, issue area, etc.) 

7.    Support organizational events 

·     Provide logistic support for 3-6 annual events: fundraisers, public meetings, etc. (May require periodic weekend work) 

·     Support director and organizers in executing site contracts and managing relationship with location staff

·     Ensure registration and payment process with event registrations

QUALIFICATIONS 

·     Team oriented 

·     Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required 

·     Accurate and detail oriented 

·     Customer-service attitude

·     Deadline oriented 

·     Experience / comfort with online tools for communications / data 

·     Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel 

·     Experience with Quickbooks a plus
