sPECIFIC MEETING PLACE TO BE ANNOUNCED

We invite all clergy, religious, and lay people to come together in prayer, song, and sacred resistance. You do not need to be a baptized Catholic to join this liturgy.

As we share in the Body of Christ, we will proclaim our call to dismantle the systems that so deeply harm our communities, and proclaim that Christ is present at Broadview.

We have arranged buses to the Mass:

  • 9 AM from St. James Catholic Church, 2907 S. Wabash Ave, Chicago, IL 60616

• Bus 3: 9 AM from Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 1101 23rd Ave, Melrose Park, IL 60160

What to bring:

• Please bring pictures of those detained or disappeared.

• Wear comfortable walking shoes and your yellow CSPL t-shirts! If you don’t have one, we will have extra on site.

About the People’s Mass

On All Saints Day, Saturday, November 1, at 10 AM, we invite you to gather with us for a second People’s Mass, this time at the Broadview Detention Center, which remains a central base of the reckless operations by ICE/DHS, and a place where our immigrant siblings face inhumane conditions, separation from their families, and impending deportation. We will again attempt to bring communion to our loved ones who are detained on the inside. All who are present will be invited to receive communion and blessings.

On this Feast Day, as we remember the saints who embodied love, courage, and justice, we will also honor the everyday saints among us today who carry the Gospel into our struggle for liberation.

A People’s Mass, or misa popular, is a Eucharistic celebration that centers the voices of the marginalized and proclaims God’s presence dwelling in all who struggle. Throughout history, outdoor Masses have been held as a sacred and powerful act of solidarity and resistance in moments of severe oppression. This Mass will continue this tradition rooted in the call of our faith to take courageous, nonviolent action when faced with injustice.
